I have always had a bit of a problem with homework, I don't feel angry about it like a little primary school kid but I have a few arguments to throw back at teachers and education systems when they talk about the importance and benefits of homework.
First of all, children spend almost 7 hours at school and possibly about an hour travelling home. I find it hard to believe that someone would think that 7 hours isn't enough and that people need to do more work when they have other things to do. I want to get a job because I need money for things, food (I like to buy some of my own healthy lunches so I don't have to eat the unhealthy crap my family eats), clothes, savings, work, sponsoring charities and of course some things I like, like chocolate and shoes. I got turned down from my job because I didn't have the hours they needed. If I had been able to work from 4 - 6 everyday and 9 - 5 on weekends, then I could have money for the things I need if the only way I can get money is when my grandma comes over like once a month and the occasional few dollars for lunch money.
Also, those few hours we have after school should be spent doing sports, having fun and preparing for the next day. When I get home from school, I need time to eat, have a shower, get my clothes ready for tomorrow, exercise, write some blogs (which helps with my English skills anyway!), go on Facebook and obviously sleep at night. Where is there time tin there for homework?!?
And I think probably a not as likely but still possible problem with homework is that obesity in children is getting worse because no one has the time to exercise anymore. All the kids go to school 5 days a week and then go home and do homework. It is recommended that children ages I think its 12 - 14 years old should be doing 60+ minutes of exercise, everyday 7 days a week. I don't see an extra hour of where I can do vigorous exercise if I have to spent that hour doing homework.
Anyway, now you know I have quite a problem with homework. I don't know why people think everyone should have homework as well as school.
